Information we collect
Information you give us directly:
- Account information — email address, and anything else you provide if you create an account.
- Book content — recipes, photos, family names, dedications, and any other content you upload or type while building a book.
- Order information — shipping address, email, and quantity/binding choices when you check out.
- Payment information — handled entirely by Stripe, our payment processor. We never see or store your full card number; see Stripe's own privacy policy for how they handle it.
- Anything you send us directly, such as a support email.
Information collected automatically:
- Device and usage data — IP address, browser type, pages visited, and how you interact with the Service.
- Cookies and similar technologies — including a session cookie that lets you return to a saved, in-progress book, and cookies set by the analytics/advertising services described below.
Analytics and advertising
We use the following third-party services to understand how the Service is used and to measure and improve our advertising:
- Google Analytics (GA4) — collects pages visited, device/browser information, and general usage patterns.
- Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel and Conversions API — helps us measure the effectiveness of ads on Meta's platforms and show relevant ads to people who've visited the Service. We send certain events (such as starting checkout or completing a purchase) to Meta both from your browser and directly from our server, which may include your IP address and, where applicable, a one-way cryptographic hash of your email address (never the email address itself).
- TikTok Pixel and Events API — serves the same purpose as the above, for ads on TikTok. The same categories of information (browser events, IP address, hashed email where applicable) may be sent both from your browser and from our server.
These services may set their own cookies and collect data directly from your browser in addition to what we send them. Each operates under its own privacy policy: Google, Meta, TikTok.
You can opt out of personalized advertising from these platforms directly through their own settings (for example, Meta's Ad Preferences and TikTok's privacy controls), or by using your browser's cookie/tracking-protection settings.
How we use your information
- To provide the Service — building, saving, previewing, and printing your book.
- To process and fulfill orders, including payment processing and print production.
- To communicate with you — order confirmations, shipping updates, and responses to support requests.
- To improve the Service and understand how it's used.
- To advertise the Service and measure how well that advertising works.
- To detect and prevent fraud or misuse.
Who we share information with
We share information with the service providers that make the Service work, each only for the purpose of performing their part of it:
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Supabase — database hosting for your account and book data.
- Google (Drive and Analytics) — storing generated print files, and usage analytics.
- Cloudinary — image hosting for photos you upload.
- Lulu — print-on-demand production and shipping of physical books.
- Meta and TikTok — advertising measurement, as described above.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Sharing data with Meta and TikTok for advertising purposes, as described above, may be considered a "sale" or "share" under some state privacy laws (like California's) even though no money changes hands — see "Your rights" below for how to opt out.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Heirloom Books, our users, or others.
Your book content
Recipes, photos, and other content you upload remain yours. We use it only to build, preview, and print the book you're ordering — we don't use your personal recipes or photos for marketing without your separate, explicit permission.
Data retention
We keep account and order information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You can request deletion at any time — see "Your rights" below.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your information.
- Opt out of the sale/sharing of your information for advertising purposes.
- Opt out of marketing communications at any time.
To exercise any of these, email us at contact@heirloombooks.ai.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
